What does it mean to be "pre-approved"?

"Pre-approval" means you have met with a mortgage professional, your credit files have been reviewed and the mortgage professional belives you can readily quality for a given mortgage amount with one or more specific mortgage programs.  Based on this information, the lender will provide a pre-approval letter, which shows your borrowing power. 

You can visit as many lenders as you like and get several pre-approvals, but keep in mind that each one carries with it a new credit check, which will show up on future credit reports.  The most important idea is to get the loan that's right for you--the mortgage or home equity line of credit with the lowest cost and best terms.

I conduct Home Buyer Seminars and am available for a personal mortgage pre-planning session at no additional charge.  If you are thinking about purchasing a home, I recommend that we get together at least 6 to 12 months in advance to ensure the home buying process will be stress-free.
